City beaches are always the best combination of both worlds; allowing you to enjoy the cosmopolitan delights and endless options and amenities of a city and a relaxing day at the seaside all in one trip! There are several great examples of city beaches to be enjoyed if you find a vacation rental in Croatia – including the charming little beach that fronts the iconic bay at Dubrovnik – but one of the best of the best among these urban strands has to be Rijeka’s Sablićevo Beach. If you are thinking of planning a vacation in this gorgeous seaside city and you have found your holiday rental in Rijeka then you should definitely make a point of spending some time on Sablićevo Beach during your trip.
Sablićevo Beach is one of several charming beaches in Rijeka (meaning that you actually have several excellent city beaches to choose from in this beautiful city) located about 2.7km east of the centre of the city in Kvarner Bay, making it exceptionally easy to access either by foot or via an incredibly short car or bus journey, depending on your situation or preferences. One of the oldest beaches in the country and also often named as one of the most beautiful, it is a rather romantic and particularly pretty little inlet that is just 40m long and 10m wide. With a pale pebble shore that meets impossibly gorgeous and impossibly turquoise waters, it is a strikingly lovely beach in heightened hues that will stick forever in your memory.
Though surrounded by rocks and small cliff sides, as well as lush green vegetation, the beach itself affords no natural shade and is, therefore, ideal for sun worshippers. Those who are a little bit more cautious about sun exposure or who have children with them should be prepared to come equipped with some sort of parasol of their own or other something else that provides shade as well as plenty of sunscreen and hats if they want to avoid the sun. It is also worth keeping in mind that, though the water is initially quite shallow, it becomes deep quite quickly about 3m from the shore. So, again, if you have kids in your party, they should be carefully watched when in the water at all times.
What will make this beach appealing to those with kids and visitors to the beach in general are the amenities, as well as the good looks of Sablićevo Beach. You will find that it is actually rather well-equipped compared to many beaches in Croatia and has showers, changing rooms, toilets, and parking just 100m from the beach. There are, however, no restaurants or cafes nearby so you will need to bring your own snacks and drinks as well as your umbrella and maybe a towel to put down on the sand or a foldable sun lounger – of course, you can decide for yourself what you and yours want or need! There is a little snack bar on the beach but its hours have varied quite a bit throughout the course of the pandemic and may or may not be open during your visit but it is not necessarily guaranteed and should not be depended upon.
Known for being peaceful and pretty, Sablićevo Beach is a romantic city beach that those who have found a villa in Rijeka should definitely visit and enjoy while spending time in this stunning seaside city in Croatia. Just pack up all of your bits and bobs, wander on over from the city centre, and then spend a day or even just a few hours relaxing on this little slice of paradise.
