The closest Point of Interest is undoubtedly the famous Belgioioso Castle
The Belgioioso Castle is a monument located in Belgioioso
It was probably founded by Galeazzo II in the second half of the fourteenth century in an extensive property of the Visconti in the territory where the town of Belgioioso later arose. The name "Zoioso" was perhaps attributed to the castle due to the amenity of the place and the happiness that once a stay in that land must have brought.
Duke Gian Galeazzo II stayed there repeatedly; so dear to him was the residence in Belgioioso that, with a letter from him dated 22 December 1393, he forbade the hunting of deer and any other game up to Bereguardo-Vigevano and Abbiategrasso. In addition, this provision is also mentioned in the famous testament of 1397 in which the Duke orders that for remedy and suffrage of his soul, a Carthusian monastery, house and church be built in the Pavia area "in loco turris de Mangano". The duke, however, excluded from donations to the Carthusians the huge park near the Castle of Pavia and the possessions of Bereguardo and Belgioioso.
The Castle nowadays
From the splendid country residence of the Prince of Belgioioso, to a meeting place for writers, philosophers, musicians and artists, home to exhibitions that set trends and tell the history of our country's customs.
The Belgioioso castle is today a precious monument of great historical-artistic value, to be handed down to future generations, but also an effective engine for the socio-economic and cultural development of the area. Thanks to the Fair of the Castles of Belgioioso and Sartirana, which for years has made it the venue for important cultural events, exhibitions and fairs at national level.
Publishing, the environment, antiques and period clothing are the vocations of the Belgioioso castle, which with a full calendar of events each year attracts at least 600 exhibiting companies and over 80,000 people.
Some are now "historical" events, such as
Parole Nel Tempo, small publishers on display;
Amicolibro, books to grow up;
Parole In Tasca, an exhibition of the pocket-sized and inexpensive book
Officinalia and Vivere al Naturale, two events for consumers who are more aware and sensitive to environmental protection;
Expo School Environment and Re-Re resource waste, two events to take stock of environmental education;
Fashion Vintage Show, sophisticated showcase for those looking for their own style;
Antiques exhibition, traditional meeting of market and culture.
Harmony, a festival of holistic wellness proposals
Bravo, the master craftsmen at the Belgioioso Castle
Added to these are non-periodic events, concerts, parties and above all large exhibitions, such as "The pleasures of life in the countryside", which inaugurated a long series of art exhibitions
The transformation of an aristocratic residence such as the Belgioioso Castle into a cultural center, accessible both inside and outside (the splendid gardens) to a large public, was the first goal of the current owners of the castle.
It is in fact a group of private individuals who in 1978 bought a large part of the castle and the entire neoclassical garden. The building was definitely neglected, uninhabited, closed, inaccessible and had lost all residential features. The first resources focused on the recovery of the areas that would have allowed the monument to be enhanced and opened to the public, re-proposing, in current and modern forms, those characteristics of well-being and entertainment typical of the party venue conceived by Antonio I, Prince of Belgioioso , and by his son Alberico XII ..
In order to bring the salons back to life, without introducing substantial changes, it was necessary to identify new reasons, different from the exquisitely aristocratic ones of the origins, and capable of attracting cultural tourism sensitive to the testimonies of the past in a peripheral area. This is why, in order to facilitate the realization of the project and to take advantage of all the opportunities connected to the new destination, an agreement was signed in 1985 between the owner who was committed to the creation of a permanent exhibition area and the cultural association Centro d'Arte e Cultura Castello di Belgioioso, which wished to enhance and raise awareness of the monumental complex through the organization of cultural events, exhibitions and concerts, fairs and conferences.
In March 1992 the Prefecture of Pavia issued the definitive certificate of authorization to the public entertainment, subsequently also the Municipality of Belgioioso granted the Usability License for a total area of 3620 square meters. with indication of the usage requirements.
From that date, within a few years, having recognized the national value of various cultural initiatives, the Association, also on the recommendation of the Lombardy Region, in concert with the Provincial Administration of Pavia, gave life to the Belgium Castles Fair and Sartirana.
The Fair Authority now boasts thirty years of experience in the planning of exhibitions and art events and can now count on the support and collaboration of the Lombardy Region and the main local institutions, as well as on the patronage of the ministries concerned from time to time.
Its events also represent a point of reference for the development and tourist and economic promotion of the area. Present and future are therefore intimately linked in the goal of continuing to create culture and disseminate information. Deepening above all, but not exclusively, those topics that have seen the castle of Belgioioso act as a pioneering forerunner on topics such as the ancient and modern art market, small publishing, school and teaching, but also organic and biodynamic agriculture , natural food, domestic ecology, up to the recent interest in vintage fashion, which has contributed to spreading the passion for vintage in Italy as well. The success of these and all the upcoming events will give rise to the possibility of continuing with the restoration of the castle.
And there is really no shortage of projects.

The Last Supper, one of the most famous of da Vinci’s world-renowned masterpieces and one of the most instantly recognisable paintings in the history of the modern world, is located on a wall in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Despite the disastrous experimental method used in creating the work, the passage of time, damage inflicted during World War II, and inadequate restoration efforts in the 19th century, this iconic wall painting remains and is a must-see while you still can.
In the 20th century, an extensive 22-year restoration project to save the painting was undertaken, finally concluding in 1999. While this endeavour helped extend the lifespan of the piece, the damage remains severe. Nevertheless, visitors continue to flock to see this captivating and stunning work, with many returning time and again. If you have booked a holiday rental in Milan or even if you have just one day in Milan during your vacation in Italy, a visit to The Last Supper is an absolute must but here’s what you should know if you're planning a visit...
Whenever I go travelling somewhere, the very first thing that I do is look up the best, most distinct, most interesting, and prettiest places to eat and drink in the area. You’re on holidays, it’s time to treat yourself and have unique and memorable experiences; therefore, the location is very important.
