
In the last post in this series on Croatian cuisine, we are wrapping up our list of typical dishes and foods that you need to make time to seek out and try while you holiday in Croatia. 7. Pašticada
As we noted in the first post in this series, Croatian cuisine is largely rooted in peasant traditions and, as such, like Tuscan cuisine, it is generally hearty, simple and tasty. A representative example of one of these hearty dishes is Dalmatinska Pašticada, also simply known as Pašticada. Originating in the region of Dalmatia, it is a stewed beef dish cooked in a special sauce and normally served alongside gnocchi or some homemade pasta.
7. Pašticada
As we noted in the first post in this series, Croatian cuisine is largely rooted in peasant traditions and, as such, like Tuscan cuisine, it is generally hearty, simple and tasty. A representative example of one of these hearty dishes is Dalmatinska Pašticada, also simply known as Pašticada. Originating in the region of Dalmatia, it is a stewed beef dish cooked in a special sauce and normally served alongside gnocchi or some homemade pasta.

It takes a long time to make and is prepared with a rich combination of ingredients, including roasted bacon, onions, parsley, nutmeg, prunes, and the sweet dessert wine prošek. As a result, it is a rich a flavourful dish. Make sure to try it if you have found a vacation rental in Dalmatia and are spending time in the beautiful coastal region.
8. Ćevapi
These are tasty grilled skinless sausages that are normally made with a combination of both pork and beef and usually served with chopped raw onions and a relish made from peppers, called ajvar, on flatbread.
9. Zagorski Štrukli
This is one of the most iconic, famous and popular, traditional Croatian dishes and was even inducted into the list of Croatia’s intangible cultural heritage by Croatia’s Ministry of Culture.

9. Zagorski Štrukli

Coming from the Hrvatsko Zagorje and Zagreb regions in the north of the country, it is a must-try for foodies visiting the country. Composed of dough and various types of filling, usually cheese, Štrukli can be either cooked or baked and are both tasty and culturally significant – they're kind of like a museum in your mouth.
10. Brudet
Brudet, brodet or brodeto is a rich fish stew made in Croatian regions of Dalmatia, Kvarner and Istria. Served with polenta, it is another tasty and wholesome representative Croatian dish that it would be a shame to leave the country without trying.

10. Brudet
