All this week, we have been discussing Croatia as a wonderful holiday destination for an Autumn or Winter break. In Autumn, you'll discover beautiful landscapes alive in golden hues, seaside resorts still pleasant places to visit, and delicious harvest foods. Then, in Winter, you'll find cities twinkling with beautiful lights, surprisingly excellent Christmas markets, wonderful festive events, and more. Along with the lower prices and smaller tourist crowds, there are plenty of reasons to plan an off-season getaway in Croatia.

Here are even more excellent things about visiting Croatia in Autumn or Winter in our last post in this series...
Split
8. Skiing

Croatia is famous for her beaches and it does remain warmer later into the year than many places in the world but it does, eventually, get colder and there are some quite good skiing destinations in the country. Mèdvednica mountain, located just north of Zagreb, hosts a World Cup Skiing event, and is a popular choice and there are also ski resorts at Platak, located north of Rijeka, and Velika, on the southern slopes of Papuk Mountain. Just find a vacation rental in Zagreb and experience it for yourself this winter!

9. Hot Springs

Croatia is known for hot springs and nothing could be nicer than sinking into one on a cold day, after playing around on holidays. There are lots of spas to choose from around the country with some of the most popular being Stubičke Toplice, Sveti Martin na Muri, Tuhelj, Varaždinske Toplice, Daruvarske Toplice, and Krapinske Toplice.

10. Festive Celebrations on Split's Riva

The Riva promenade in Split's old town plays host to a Christmas fair that runs throughout December and into January and sees the length of the waterfront lined with tents selling goods, gifts, foods, mulled wine and hot brandy. Many restaurants and bars stay open late in the area and there are DJ performance, bands, matinee concerts, klapa performers, classical music players and more. The whole atmosphere is joyous and incredibly festive and it makes a vacation rental in Split in winter a better idea than you might have ever imagined.

There are lots of reasons to visit Croatia during the off-season period of Autumn and Winter and we have only touched on a selection of them here so why not book a getaway and discover even more charms of this time of year for yourself...
