The Scala Coeli: One Of The Most Stunning Views In Spain

La Clerecia is a church in Salamanca and its towers are known as Scala Coeli. The church was formerly known as the Royal College of the Company of Jesus and was a school and residence for the Jesuit priests who taught its students. It was begun in the 17th century by order of Queen Margarita of Austria, wife of Philip III of Spain, and was designed by Juan Gomez de Mora. A Baroque-era building with two iconic towers that offer two different perspectives on the city, it boasts utterly stunning views over the city and is a must-see for those who have found a vacation rental in Castille and León and are spending time exploring the city. While the climb to the top is a bit arduous, it is well worth the effort.
The towers were only recently opened to the public and there are two different tours that take you on different routes through the church and up to the towers. Also recently restored, the building is a great beauty in its own right and the views are the cherry on the cake. Set against a backdrop of the Cathedral, the Plaza de Anaya and other buildings belonging to the University of Salamanca, the views from the towers look down over the older part of the city and transport visitors to another world entirely. The result is breath-taking. One of the most extraordinary views in Spain, it really and truly is something to make sure to pencil in if you are ever planning a visit to the city of Salamanca.
