The sub-tropical climate means that you can visit in Spring or Autumn during the school breaks and out of the highest peak months of the summer (or during the summer too) and still expect warm weather. Plus, the lava-formed peaks and beautiful beaches provide ample opportunities to try different sports and activities. As it is a popular island for families you'll also have plenty of other kids around for your little ones to pal around with.

If you want to keep costs low, you can find a rental further out from the centre of the city; use the city's excellent public transport system; visit museums, the massive El Retiro Park, and simply wander the picturesque streets at little to no cost; and there are plenty of places to get inexpensive and delicious eats around town. The cost of flights from other European countries can be exceptionally low, as well, and there are plenty of them to choose from as it is the capital. So, if you're looking to make your money go as far as possible, Madrid is a great idea.
