Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and, like the other islands, was created by volcanic activity. As a result, the natural beaches of this beloved sun holiday destination are largely small strips of black sand. Striking and fascinating as these beaches are, if you have been thinking about a holiday in Tenerife and are browsing our villas in Tenerife, then we recommend spending some time on the picture-perfect Playa de Las Teresitas. This artificial tourist beach has been carefully designed as a little slice of paradise and is the ideal place to stake out a spot, leave your daily concerns far behind, soak up the sun, and relax in the most beautiful of surroundings.
Originally a typically rocky strand in Tenerife, covered in stones and with a small strip of black sand, Playa de Las Teresitas was redesigned in the 1960s after various schemes to create artificial beaches were launched by local authorities due to the gradual disappearance of natural beaches in the 1950s. Many of the natural beaches of Tenerife had been lost to the construction industry, which was collecting the volcanic black sand for use in various building practices. Unfortunate as this is, it did lead to the creation of one of Spain's most beautiful beaches in the Playa de Las Teresitas, which was expanded to a width of 80m, is now 1.3km long, and had two piers built along its shore. As the distinctive black local sand was too scarce and expensive to purchase at the time, white Sahara Desert sand was imported, creating the perfectly powdery crescent moon of a strand that exists on the site today.
With parking for over 100 cars, a bus service, a paddle area, bars, restaurants, and various other facilities and amenities, this beach is both a dreamy picture of a perfect tropical-looking gem and well-equipped. Given the long season of hot weather in Tenerife (with temperatures rising in April and staying hot through much of fall, remaining pleasant during winter), there is ample time throughout the year during which one can find a villa in Tenerife and enjoy a sun holiday on this island in Spain. If you need to just enjoy some sun, fun, and relaxation, and get away from it all, this is the perfect spot!
