Coastline in Dalmatia

1. A Variety Of Beaches To Choose From

As noted, this lovely town is positioned on the Dalmatian Coast, in a prime position. A consequence of this fact is that there are an array of absolutely stunning beaches to choose from in Solin and the surrounding area. There are, in fact, 14 beaches within a 15km radius of Solin and a whopping 32 beaches within 20km. Most of these beaches are easy to access and are the sort of pretty pebble strands lapped by the gorgeous and crystal clear waters of the Adriatic that are found in this part of the world. There is a variety of beaches to visit if you have found a villa in Solin from those with perfect amenities and that are often busy during the summer months to beaches in more deserted locations with fewer facilities but almost no crowds. In addition, there are naturist beaches, pet-friendly beaches, camping beaches, and beaches with more unique traits on offer such as Bačvice, a sandy beach that is known for the local game of picigin. Other particular highlights among the beaches in the area include: Duilovo, a peaceful and dog-friendly beach located close to the centre of Split; the picturesque Plaža Stobreč Jug located in the town of Stobreč, which is relatively uncrowded but boasts amazing amenities including a diving centre, snack sales and bathrooms, an aqua park for children, a playground, and many different sports and water sports facilities; and the famous natural beauty that is Labadusa Beach.

2. Roman Ruins That Will Impress Archaeology Enthusiasts

One of the biggest selling points of Solin as a destination is its rich and fascinating history. Solin was, in fact, the birthplace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 3rd century AD and was the capital of Dalmatia in Roman times. It is no surprise, therefore, that the town boasts some extraordinary Roman ruins with Solin’s amphitheatre being the undeniable highlight. Dating to around the second half of the 2nd century AD, it was able to accommodate a whopping 15,000 spectators or even more. First excavated in the 1840s, it is a relatively well-preserved site and, just to the south of the building, a graveyard for fallen gladiators has also been excavated with epitaphs giving us a record of their names, places of origin, and fighting specialities. Today, the lower sections of the walls can be visited all throughout the year and, while it is not totally complete, one can get a sense of the vast scale of this impressive space. For history buffs who book a vacation rental in Solin, it is truly a must-see.

3. Beautiful Scenery To Surround You

Surrounded by the mountains of Kozjak and Mosor and with the River Jadro flowing through the town and rich greenery all around, this is a fertile and beautiful part of Croatia. Enjoy incredible local wines from the lush vineyards of Dalmatia, dart the 2,500m along the Solin zipline between the areas of Blaca and Gornja Rupotina on Kozjak, rent a bike and cycle the breath-taking trails through the stunning landscapes, and get out and explore this magical part of the world. Combining the best of the lush greenery and coastal beauty of Dalmatia, a holiday rental in Solin means time spent in the most peaceful and picturesque of settings.

4. A Perfect Base For Exploring The Region

Of course, while there is plenty to see, do, and enjoy in and around Solin itself, if you are booking a villa in Solin you will quickly find that it is a brilliant place to be based if you want to enjoy day-trips to some of the best-loved destinations in this part of Croatia. The famously beautiful city of Split is the largest on the Coast of Dalmatia and the second largest in the entire country and is just a fifteen minute drive away from Solin. Come and explore the stunning Old Town, visit Diocletian’s Palace, take in astounding views over the town from the Cathedral, discover more archaeological findings from Solin at the Archaeological Museum, and more during a day in this historic and lovely town. Šibenik is another historic and charming coastal town with lots to see and do that is an easy day-trip distance away, as are Zadar and Krka National Park.
