In order to plan your dream getaway properly, it is key to get the answer to this last question right. So, just how long should you spend on the island if you are booking a vacation rental in Crete?
Crete is actually a rather large island and so those who want to get around to see her most famous sights will need at least a week, if not more, and will need a car. It is also an island with endless options for outdoor pursuits so between eating excellent food, seeing historic sites, wandering pretty towns, hanging out at picture-perfect and famous beaches, and having time to fit in hikes or adventures or trying out various water sports without running yourself ragged, you should be certain to give yourself ample time to make the most of this gorgeous part of the world.
For those booking a villa in Crete, we would say that, in order to make the most of your time and to really relax and unwind, at least a week is necessary. Many of our properties have to be booked for at least a week according to the owners’ policies. However, we would likely agree with this as a minimum stay anyway in order to give yourself ample time for a perfect balance of days exploring the island and opportunity to relax by the pool, enjoy long meals on the terrace, and to really soak up the atmosphere of your surroundings. Booking a villa in Crete is a true chance to get away from it all, leave daily stresses and concerns behind, and enjoy a proper break in magical and beautiful surroundings and, in order to do this, you don’t want to be in any hurry – you want plenty of time to relax.
If, then, you also really want to see and do lots while on holiday in Crete, you might want to add another three days to bring you up to a ten-day vacation in Crete or, maybe, even a whole other week to your trip. Those with this kind of time on their hands and, ideally, a car rental, will be able to get out and see and do so much while still not being in a massive rush. Should this be possible for you, it really is the way to go! If you wanted to really see and do it all, you could add endless weeks on to your trip but that’s not an option for most of us.
However, the more time you have, the more that you can obviously see and do. Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania are some of the island’s key cities and all offer more metropolitan pleasures in addition to beyond charming historic centres, interesting museums, architectural gems, and more. The vast and iconic Balos Beach and Gramvousa Island, the pink beach of Elafonissi, and the wild scenery of Seitan Limania beach are just three examples of the long list famous beaches on the island and, in addition to this, there endless little gems and magical lesser-known strands. Samaria, Kourtaliotiko, and Imbros are three gorges that are all well-known for excellent hiking and Crete, in general, has plenty of great trails and areas to explore. There are wineries that you can visit, the grand archaeological sites of Knossos and Phaestos to wonder at, aquariums to admire, waterparks to play in, and much, much more besides.
