7. Pašticada

As we noted in the first post in this series, Croatian cuisine is largely rooted in peasant traditions and, as such, like Tuscan cuisine, it is generally hearty, simple and tasty. A representative example of one of these hearty dishes is Dalmatinska Pašticada, also simply known as Pašticada. Originating in the region of Dalmatia, it is a stewed beef dish cooked in a special sauce and normally served alongside gnocchi or some homemade pasta.
