Read on to discover the second part of in our two-part series aboout the filming locations and sights and to go beyond Campania and find Ripley’s (2024) other destinations that you can visit on vacation in Italy.


Following on from the last post, we have been charting the adventures of the titular character of Ripley as he explores Italy. In episode three,  Ripley and his friend, Dickie, go on a trip to the town of Sanremo, in Liguria, a leading tourist destination along the Italian Riviera. Amidst the tense scenes, it is still possible to see the seaside charms of the town – the elegant buildings, the palm trees waving in the breeze, the lovely beach along the seafront, the pretty streets, and more. You might even take a cue from the characters and rent a boat for a trip, though hopefully in more pleasant circumstances! Dating back to the 19th century and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Spritz can trace its origins to the Austrian Spritzer, another simple drink that is a blend of equal parts white wine and water. It was concocted by the Habsburg Empire's soldiers, merchants, diplomats, and personnel who had found the Italian wines too potent and requested a spritz (spray) of water to lighten the wines. This practice soon gave birth to an entirely new beverage.

One of the most famous of all the buildings that spring out of the Venetian Lagoon is the lovely Church of Santa Maria della Salute, meaning the Church of Saint Mary of Health. Located on the strip of land that is the Punta della Dogana, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the city, the church is visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The most recent of the so-called plague churches, it was begun in 1631 after a particularly devastating outbreak of plague in the summer of 1630 that devastated the population of the city, as a votive offering to Our Lady of Health in an attempt to beg help for city in freeing them from the deadly disease.     Read More
