Surfing
While one might imagine scenes of summer heat and excitement when picturing days at the beach in Spain, the majority of surfers come to enjoy the northern coastline from October onwards when the surf season begins. The Atlantic certainly gets rather cold at this time of the year but, if you’re interested in surfing in Spain and want to enjoy both the best possible waves and the wonderful cuisine, attractions, culture, and landscape of the area at the same time, then it is the only time to plan your visit.

There are lots of famous surf towns in the country but if you find a villa in Cantabria, you will discover plenty of great options along the coast of the region and a distinctly fascinating part of Spain to explore. Known as, “Green Spain,” this area is full of unbelievable natural beauty and boasts over 60 sandy beaches, endless stunning churches and abbeys along the old Way of Saint James pilgrimage route, several extraordinary nature reserves, pretty towns, top-notch spas, and a unique gastronomy. Add to this the excellent surf spots and you have a recipe for a perfect autumn getaway in Spain full of invigorating days in the ocean or wandering the mountains that are blanketed in trees in astounding shades of gold and russet or warming up with some delicious seasonal specialities.     Read More

Córdoba
Andalusia is one of Spain's most popular tourist areas, which is understandable given its incredible beauty and endless attractions. Seen as the, “mother,” of Spanish traditions, it is where towns like Granada positively burst with the elements like Flamenco and bullfighting that have become so synonymous with the country's cultural heritage. Andalusia also boasts a varied and gorgeous landscape and scenery, incredible golden beaches, excellent weather throughout the year, great ski resorts, perfect spots for surfing, wonderful hiking routes, and more. While the cities of Seville and Granada are most famous, however, if you have found a villa in Andalusia and are looking to plan some day trips and outings, we would urge you not to miss out on the charming town of Córdoba, particularly if you are visiting during the spring. One of the oldest towns in Europe, it has an exceptionally pretty Old Town and is a picturesque gem bursting with culture and character and with the scent of flowers.     Read More

Torrijas
Move over, French Toast, we've got a new breakfast favourite: Spanish Toast! Spanish Toast, or Torrijas, is a delicious bread pudding recipe from Spain that is traditionally made by soaking stale bread in milk or wine with honey and spices then dipped in beaten egg and fried with olive oil. In doing this, the fibres of the bread break down and this leaves the final product crispy outside and smooth inside. As a final touch, the bread is then typically sprinkled with cinnamon – sounds delicious, right?!

Dating back to at least the fifteenth century (the first written record of torrijas that we know of is by Spanish composer, poet and playwright Juan del Encina in his Cancionero, published in 1496: "En cantares nuevos/ gocen sus orejas,/ miel y muchos huevos/ para hacer torrejas,/ aunque sin dolor/ parió al Redentor"), this classic and traditional Spanish sweet is typically made to celebrate Lent and Holy Week. In fact, should you wander the streets of any given Spanish city at Easter, you will likely find that street food stalls are selling the treat, that it is available in supermarkets, that it can be ordered in cake shops, and that some bars and restaurants will also be selling it.     Read More
