Pamplona

The Running of the Bulls is an internationally famous, and controversial event, that is part of the fiestas celebrations of San Fermin, which are celebrated in Pamplona, Navarra, every year from the 6th to the 14th of July. The running of the bulls involves a herd of bulls being lead through the streets of the old quarter to the bullring (where bullfighting takes place) by runners.

While the bull running is, undoubtedly, the most famous part of this event, that is not actually the main point of it, at all. In fact, there is a lot more to see, do and experience. If you love being in the thick of it, this is the event for you. Just browse our vacation rentals in Basque Country and plan a trip to Spain for yourself.

The fiestas are actually a celebration of San Fermin, patron saint of Navarra but are, today, really a mass gathering of people from all over the globe to party and have fun. At the centre of this is the Encierro, the Running of the Bulls, which was born from a practical necessity: getting the bulls from outside the city into the bullring. It has since evolved into a cultural mainstay.

An Egyptian Temple standing in Madrid, Spain: not what you might expect, right? Yet, that is exactly what you will find. It's the Temple of Debod and it is a genuine, reconstructed Ancient Egyptian Temple that stands, stone for stone, as it once did in Egypt!

If you are fond of oddities and strange attractions, this is a must see. In fact, we imagine most people would find such a bizarre sight and interesting background tale to be of interest. Just find a vacation rental in Madrid and see it for yourself. I mean, there are plenty of other reasons to visit the city anyway, this is merely the very odd cherry on top.
La Playa de las Catedrales

Beautiful beaches are not a rarity in Spain. Neither, in fact, are unique beaches. However, while there may be plenty of options, some stand out as particularly interesting or beloved and for good reasons. A great example of this is the so-called La Playa de las Catedrales (Beach of the Cathedrals), which is officially known as the Praia de Augas Santas (Beach of the Holy Waters).

This beach is located on Spain's Galician coast and is a mile-long stretch of sand that is famous for its extraordinary geological formations that look rather like the flying buttresses that were used for centuries by stone masons in the construction of Europe's cathedrals; ergo, the nickname for the beach. These "buttresses", however, are entirely natural phenomena that give the beach a rugged and romantic appearance.
