Several countries have benefitted from increased tourist numbers as filming locations for Game of Thrones since the show blew up to be the huge cultural phenomenon that we know it to be today; Iceland and Ireland among them. However, one of the most distinct and popular locations has to be Dubrovnik in Croatia. The city is synonymous with the city of King's Landing from the television series and books and while it boasted plenty to see and do before, now there is a whole new layer of interest to be found when you visit. Just find a vacation rental in Dubrovnik and follow in the footsteps of your favourite characters.
There are several sites in the Old Town where Game of Thrones was filmed including the Pile and Ploče gate, St. Dominic street, along the city walls, the Bokar fortress and the Minčeta tower, as well as many other locations dotted around and just outside the city. Founded in the 7th Century by refugees from Epidaurus in Greece, the Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and picturesque gem that does make one feel as though they have stepped right into the Middle Ages or some grand fantasy novel.

Several companies offer tours lead by locals who will tell you all about the city and the filming of the show. However, it is possible just to wander around some of the sights and locations on your own. For your convenience, we have listed them here but do bear in mind that the tour operators will generally cover entrance fees in the tour price and you may have to pay to see some of the places on this list. (Warning, there may be slight spoilers ahead).
1. The Jesuit Staircase
One of the most iconic scenes in the whole series has to be season five's “Walk of Shame”, in which the proud queen, Cersei Lannister, is forced to walk naked through the streets of King's Landing. This scene actually begins at the top of the Jesuit Staircase, an elegant Baroque staircase located on the south side of Gundulic Square.

2. St. Dominic Street
Also featured in the above scene with Cersei Lannister is St. Dominic Street, located near the Dominican monastery, and linking Ploče Gate with the main street, Stradun. However, this street has actually been featured multiple times throughout the series; in many marketplace scenes, when the Gold Cloaks come to kill one of King Robert’s illegitimate sons and where Tyrion and Bronn witness a protest speech.
3. Ploče Gate
This 14th century Romanesque gate is the east entrance to the Old Town and is where Cersei Lannister passed over a bridge to enter the Red Keep after the aforementioned walk of shame at the end of season five.
