In the last post, we introduced the stunning beach of Zlatni Rat. Called the Golden Cape or Golden Horn beach, it is a beautiful and famous beach on the Croatian coastline, located 2km from the town of Bol on Brač Island, that is regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe. While it can be busy, it is an incredible natural gem that is well worth the visit. Just make sure you know what to expect before you go! There are a few things to keep in mind when visiting this beach so here are our tips, tricks and essential facts.
1. The water looks shallow but gets deep very quickly so be careful and keep a watchful eye on kids that are in the water.
2. Similarly, while the current in the Hvar Channel keeps the waters pleasantly cool and clear, it can be mildly hazardous for swimmers who venture far southwards from the tip towards the open sea, as it makes it hard to swim back west to the beach. However, this current would most likely carry swimmers back east towards the harbor of Bol and is not exceptionally dangerous but it is best to watch children carefully.
3. Small change is necessary as you often need to pay for use of the toilet on the beach. Carry some 1,2 and 5 Kuna coins.
4. Things will be expensive as this is a tourist hotspot. If you are trying to save money or spend a little less during your holiday, make sure to bring your own snacks and drinks with you.
5. By evening, the beach pretty much empties and there are some spectacular sunsets to be seen. If you're not interested in crowds, head later in the day to catch the sun dip behind the mountains and sea in peace and quiet.
Now that you're all prepared for your visit just find a vacation rental in Bol and spend some time on this stunning beach for yourself.
