Paris

Paris, of course, has had much written about it and been home to many of the greatest individuals to put pen to paper in the history of the world. There are endless love letters in culture and pop culture to Paris but there are also some very direct testimonials from the mouths and pens of literary greats.

James Joyce, for example, who lived, worked and was published in Paris, said of the city, through his famous ode to Dublin (funnily enough), Dubliners: “Everything in Paris is gay," said Ignatius Gallagher. "They believe in enjoying life--and don't you think they're right? If you want to enjoy yourself properly you must go to Paris.” Who doesn't like enjoying themselves? What more needs to be said than the fact that it's a place where you'll have fun?

Hemingway, meanwhile, saw something in the city that he had always longed for before and noted that, “Paris is so very beautiful that it satisfies something in you that is always hungry in America.” Famously, he described the city thusly in his “A Moveable Feast”: “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”

However, it isn't just Paris that captured hearts. While we do suggest finding a vacation rental in Paris and exploring that incredible city, there is much more to see and do around the country so be sure to read on to the other posts in this series and the quotes that will make you want to explore France from top to bottom.
