Green Lagoon
Lanzarote is an extraordinary destination that is often underestimated. It is not just a destination for resort holidays during which one never strays far from the villa, for lazing endlessly on the beach or hanging out in touristy bars and restaurants. Of course, you can do all of those things, if you want to, but there is more to this island. Its landscape, in particular, is extraordinary. Volcanic and alien-like plains and mountains meet scrubby coasts with perfect beaches, to present starkly beautiful and fascinating vistas. Once you find a vacation rental in the Canary Islands and are spending time on Lanzarote, make sure to venture beyond the towns and you will be greatly rewarded...
In particular, make sure to seek out the half-moon shaped Green Lagoon (also called Charco Verde and Charco de los Clicos), which is located near Timanfaya National Park and Los Volcanes Natural Park, a short distance along the southwest coastline from the exciting Los Hervideros. Guarded by an old volcano, this unusual lagoon is famous for the water’s truly vibrant color – something that is further magnified by the black terrain that surrounded.

Formed by ocean water that has become trapped in a crater on the beach on the volcano’s western base, it gets its incredible colour from a combination of algae and sulfur. A beautiful and striking site to behold, it is a protected area but can be visited, though swimming in the water is not permitted. Come and feel as though you've been transported to another world, get some incredible photos and marvel at the varied, and bizarre, wonders of nature!

While you're exploring the area, you might also consider visiting this nearby restaurant where they cook the food over a volcano...
