Those with little ones who are planning a trip to France and who have found a vacation rental in Centre may want to take note of a very particular type of theme park that is located in the region. There are three parks by the name, “Le Château des Enigmes”, or Castle of Riddles. These are old castles that have been reimagined to be used as places for play and fun. Le Château des Enigmes - Val de Loire, or Château de Rocheux, is the branch located in the department of Loir et Cher, 17 km from Vendôme. Here you can explore the beautiful castle and the grounds, go on treasure hunts, try out the escape room, visit the animals on the farm and more. It is the ideal spot for a day out for the whole family, somewhere that younger kids, in particular, will really love!
One of the ten manors of the barony of Fréteval, the Château de Rocheux is built over the original manor that was home to the first Lord of Rocheux, Jehan de Morée, in the 13th century. This family remained in the home until the 16th century, when they were succeeded by the Beauxoncles family. It later became a coaching inn and then a hotel before going bankrupt in 1996. The château, the two outbuildings, the grounds, forests and lakes, an area of around 44 acres in total was sold at auction to Laurent Guerre-Genton and his family, who made it their home. Then, in 2014 it became the Château des Énigmes – Val de Loire.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and boasting stunning, lush grounds that are awash with carp in the rivers, frogs in the moats, squirrels in the trees, hares darting about, and deer amongst the thickets. In addition to the wilder animals, the farm has plenty of domesticated cuties to feed and hug, like sheep, goats, donkeys, ducks, and more. The treasure huts also take you across the grounds and are great fun and educational, informing about the history, architecture, and more of the area. Once you're tired, there is a cute café to refuel with coffee and ice-cream or you can picnic on the lawns, if you prefer.

Perfectly set up for kids, the Château des Enigmes is open everyday from the beginning of April to November from 10am to 7pm. If you're in this part of France and want to delight the little ones, it is the best place to go!
