Ensure Your Love Is Eternal At The Canal D'Amour Beach In Corfu

Sidari is a town in a hilly area in the northwest of Corfu. It was originally actually two smaller villages that were connected by a long beach but, over the years, and as buildings were added, the two merged into one bigger town. It has gradually become a popular tourist destination, particularly among travellers from the UK, who are drawn to the beautiful seaside locations and beaches, the vibrant nightlife, and all of the excellent tourist facilities that are offered by the town. However, there is one particular tourist attraction that brings many to the area: the beaches and, in particular, a very special beach called the Canal d’Amour, or the Channel of Love. The Canal d’Amour is the most famous and unique beach on all of Corfu and is positioned between Sidari and another nearby town called Peroulades, about 32 kilometers from the city of Corfu. It is a natural work of art, a little opening and channel in the coast that was lovingly created by the corrosive effect of the water and the air above on the cliffs made of sandstone in this area and it continues to change, with little canals, caves, and bights formed by the elements with each passing year.

One might wonder, then, where the name comes from. It comes from a myth that couples who can swim through the narrow canal will get married and be together forever. Therefore, this beautiful beach is not just popular for its stunning looks but also among lovers hoping to ensure their love lasts. Keep in mind that it gets very busy during the summer months and if you are visiting in the high season, you’ll want to come early to snag a spot and you’ll have to put up with crowds.
