Cap De Formentor
The island of Mallorca is a famous paradise on earth and is one of those places where you can head off on a drive, without any plans or destination in mind, and stumble upon the most exceptionally beautiful sights that you could ever hope to see in life. However, if you have found a vacation rental in Mallorca and are looking for one particularly exceptionally scenic spot then we highly recommend a visit to the Cap de Formentor.

Located on the eastern end of the Formentor Peninsula, on the northernmost point of Mallorca, the Cap de Formentor is made up of dramatically winding roads cutting through picturesque landscapes along the coastline that is comprised of rugged cliffs and rock formations jutting out into jewel-toned seas, endless skies, and lush greenery, all perfectly capped by a striking lighthouse at the end of the peninsula. A popular route and focal point for those driving for pleasure along the stunning coast of Mallorca and for those cycling around the most scenic roads on the island, it is also an area with lots of excellent hiking trails, climbing options, photo spots, coves and beaches, and wonderful points from which to take in the sunset over this majestically beautiful landscape.
Called the, “meeting point of the winds,” by Majorcans, this incredible section of the coastline is formed of cliffs and limestone peaks that were carved out and made so impressively dramatic by the relentless beating of the sea and winds. Accessed by a 13.5 km road running up from the little town of Port de Pollenca that was built by Italian engineer Antonio Paretti in 1925, there are lots of different viewpoints along the way to take in amazing sweeping vistas over the Cap de Formentor, including Mirador del Mal Pas. Also named Mirador d'es Colomer after the small island Colomer, which fills the panorama from this viewpoint, it is the most popular spot from which to take in the famous stunning views of the area.

Worth noting, however, is that this whole road can get very hectic and busy during the summer months with various drivers, cyclists, hikers, and more all coming to enjoy the exceptional natural beauty of this part of the island and crowding the area. If you're looking for a more peaceful experience of the Cap de Formentor, we recommend visiting out of season or in the morning on a summer's day when there are usually far fewer people around.

While you are on the route along the Cap de Formentor and are exploring the surrounding area, be sure to also seek out some of the beautiful coves that are located around the headland, including the stunning Cala Figuera, Cala Murta, and Cala Pi de la Posada. You can, additionally, head to and explore the incredible cave at Racó de Xot, which is really quite extraordinary to look at and is one of the most important sources of information on the prehistoric talaiot culture. Finally, you should be sure to cap off your visit to the area by making your way to the aforementioned lighthouse, which is considered the highlight of the experience of the Cap de Formentor. Opened in 1863, the Formentor Lighthouse is remote, romantic, and affords more incredible views over the surrounding area.

So, if you have found yourself a vacation rental in Mallorca and you are looking for somewhere to go hiking, cycling, or to just go for a nice drive while taking in some of the island's and some of Spain's most beautiful scenery, then be sure to plan a trip to the stunning Cap de Formentor.
