Catalonia is a region of Spain with a rich, unique, and fascinating heritage and culture and there are endless museums, incredible architectural gems, churches, palaces, beaches, natural wonders, historic towns, specialised shops, astounding craftsmen, wonderful shows and theatres and performances, festivals, markets, foodie hotspots, and more to be discovered all across the region. In fact, with a vacation rental in Catalonia, there is a whole world of possibilities when it comes to types of holidays that you can plan, interests that you can indulge, and memories that can be made. However, those with a special interest in fast cars and the Ferrari brand in particular, might be interested to know that a rather unique theme park opened up in Catalonia a few years ago: Ferrari Land! A must for gear heads exploring this part of Spain, this is an unexpected but rather enjoyable day out...
One would be forgiven for picturing Italy when the name Ferrari is mentioned and the famous racecar and luxury car brand does, indeed, hail from Maranello in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. However, Ferrari Land is a little slice of Italy in Catalonia. Opened as part of the famous PortAventura amusement park only back in 2017, this theme park is dedicated to all things car-related and boasts interesting things to look at and some absolutely thrilling rides, as well as a street of stores that makes one feel as though they have actually been momentarily transported to Italy. While, of course, cars are central to this theme park there are enough other attractions and things to see and do that this makes for a great treat to the car obsessives in your group but should keep everyone else pretty engaged and happy too – a very important part of planning a good, crowd-pleasing outing while indulging a super-fan in something they'll especially love during a holiday!
A key part of a visit to Ferrari Land is the Ferrari Experience. This is a dedicated building that houses a 4000m2 technological experience, unique to Europe, which allows visitors to step into the world of F1. Introducing the history, present, and future of the brand and racing, this is the ultimate museum-going experience for those who want to know all about the world of Ferrari.
If you're less interested in the brand and cars there are plenty of other things to see and do in the park. Among these other attractions, the rides are the major draw for many. In fact, Ferrari Land boasts Europe's tallest and fastest rollercoaster of its kind, The Red Force. This ride only lasts 16 seconds in total, but in that time it reaches a height of 112m and accelerates from zero to 180kmph in just five seconds. Absolutely not for the faint-hearted, this is a serious must for any thrill-seekers in your group in need of a boost of adrenaline. In addition to The Red Force there are other rides such as the Thrill Tower Free Fall, the Thrill Tower Bounce Back, the Rapids, bumper cars, a dedicated 570m track with sleek looking little sports car replicas that the family can race against each other, a play area for kids, smaller coasters for younger children, and much more besides. Basically, in addition to being a Ferrari-themed amusement park, it is a proper park full of great coasters and rides and thrills and fun for all age groups!
Finally, for those in the party who may be uninterested in hurtling through space on rides and in cars but who are along for the day, those who want to relax and take things slow, there are shows and street performances and restaurants and Italian-themed streets lined with shops full of gifts and souvenirs. Grab a coffee, browse around, and leave the adrenaline to those who are up for it.
So, if you have a car-lover in your party and/or some thrill-seekers and you have found a villa in Catalonia, why not check out this unique theme park while you're in this part of Spain?
