A Fun And Creative Day Out For All On Vacation In Zakynthos

If you are spending time exploring the Ionian Islands and have found a villa in Zakynthos, you will discover an island that is just full of stunning views and natural beauty. For those interested in hiking, swimming, cycling, snorkelling, boating, and plenty of other water sports, in getting out and getting active, in taking in gorgeous scenery, it is a truly idyllic destination. However, while these wonderful traits are immediately apparent and reason enough to plan a trip to this special part of Greece and the world, they are not all that there is to the island. There are some other, more unique and less obvious things to see and do that you should definitely make a point to check out while on Zakynthos, such as the island's architectural gems, museums, turtle rescue centre, and more. For the creative types who like to make things and those who love unique, handmade, lovely home goods, in particular, a visit to the Hanne Mi S. Ceramic Art Studio is a must among the island's less apparent attractions!
Born in Oslo, Norway, Hanne studied arts and crafts and garnered experience in teaching others and combines these two elements wonderfully in the ceramic studio that she established in Zakynthos back in 1990. Visitors are welcome to pop into her studio and showroom in the Vasilikos region between May and October and can make private appointments to drop by if travelling in the area during the winter months by calling her ahead of time at +30 6973529818. This charming, cosy, and welcoming studio space is filled with Hanne's brightly-coloured and beautiful ceramic goods, which can be purchased directly on site. Made with love and great care, the wares on sale include tableware for everyday use, ceramic sculptures, decorative tiles to be used in the bathroom and kitchen, and more besides.

All of the pieces are stoneware that is fired at high temperatures of around 1270 degrees Celsius and some are more decorative, fired with the Japanese Raku technique. Made without Cadmium or Lead in any of the glazes, all of Hanne's products are food safe and have been tested by EBETAM. Inspired by the simplicity of the aesthetic favoured in her home country of Norway and the vibrant colours of her current home in the Mediterranean, these are charming and vivid pieces that would brighten up any home instantly and make for perfect gifts and souvenirs.

However, if you want to get a bit more hands-on and don't want to simply purchase some pieces, you can get directly involved in making some of your own handmade goods yourself in one of Hanne's workshops that are offered during the summer months. Enjoy the fun and relaxing experience of making a cup and a clay figure by attending one of her classes, which are suitable for absolute beginners and all age groups – a perfect activity for everyone in the family and a wonderful way to make unforgettable memories together!
Booking is essential to attend these workshops and there are two different options available. Option one is the public class of up to ten people that is offered on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12pm. Lasting two hours, these workshops cost €40 per person (the cost of all materials is included in this fee) and include a guided introduction to hand-building techniques and two attempts on the potters-wheel. The other option that is possible is a private lesson, which can be arranged separately, for any day of the week you like, by contacting Hanne ahead of time. These are potters-wheel lessons and are available to groups of a maximum of two people. Costing €60 per person (with all materials also included, except glazes, which cost €6 per item), the private sessions last approximately two and a half hours and are for those who are really interested in getting a proper introduction to ceramics. All works produced in both types of workshop can be collected at the studio three days after your session or can be posted on home for you, which is excellent if you're worried about baggage allowances or getting your carefully crafted goods home in one piece.

So, if you have found a vacation rental in Zakynthos and you love looking at, buying, and even making incredible handmade ceramic goods, then be sure to make time to swing by Hanne's lovely studio for a creative and fun day out in Greece!
