Find A Villa In Rijeka And Spend Time On The Pretty Glavanovo Beach

Glavanovo Beach

Recently, we mentioned the lovely Sablićevo Beach in Rijeka. This, as we noted at the time, is a stunning city beach that those who have found a villa in Rijeka and are exploring the town can simply walk to easily or quickly get to via a short drive or journey on public transport – ideal for combining the cosmopolitan delights of a city break with the pleasures and relaxation of a seaside getaway. However, Sablićevo Beach is actually only one of several charming beaches in the gorgeous coastal city of Rijeka. Another of the best and most picturesque beaches to pay a visit to if you have found a holiday rental in Rijeka is Glavanovo Beach.

A magical little bay painted in vibrant teal and lush green shades, this pretty pebble beach is just 80m long but is a great option for those who like a quieter and more peaceful beach experience as it is generally less busy than some of the other examples in the area, though any visitors should expect all of the beaches in the area to be pretty busy during the summer months and peak tourism season. Access to the beach is down via quite a steep staircase with a couple hundred steps so it is, therefore, not readily accessible to those with mobility issues or those bringing small children along with them. Couples, however, tend to be particularly fond of this romantic and secluded spot that is also famous as being one of the best and most beautiful places to take in the sunset while on vacation in Rijeka. It is also worth keeping in mind that the water here is quite deep and the waves often get very choppy so Glavanovo, therefore, is not an ideal beach for those who are not strong swimmers or, again, those with smaller kids who are looking for more family-friendly strands. As the beach itself is relatively small, it is also worth paying attention to the tides before planning your visit as most of it can disappear depending on how far in the tide might be.

Like Sablićevo, Glavanovo Beach is only a couple of kilometres out from the centre of the city and is, therefore, easy to reach and to include in your days exploring what the town has to offer. There is an outdoor shower and a changing-room on the beach but you’ll have to bring along your own snacks and drinks or head back up from the beach itself if you become hungry or thirsty throughout your time at Glavanovo as there is no shop or snack bar along the strand. This beach does also offer some natural shade at different points throughout the day from the surrounding trees and rock formations but bringing a parasol if you're planning  a long day or are prone to sun burns is probably a good idea. In terms of other facilities or amenities, the beach doesn’t really have any to offer, other than its great natural beauty, which is certainly reason enough to visit in our opinion. Completely shielded from the noise and sights of the city by its positioning, this really is a little gem with crystal clear waters in a picture-perfect turquoise hue, some very pretty rocky and lush green surroundings, and truly lovely views out to sea.

So, if you needed yet another reason to come vacation in Rijeka and discover this pretty seaside town’s various charms for yourself, then certainly add Glavanovo Beach to the list. While it may not be the biggest or most impressive beach in all of Croatia, it is certainly a very sweet and perfectly idyllic city beach and a true slice of peace and tranquillity to be enjoyed while exploring Rijeka. And, as just one of several such city beaches in Rijeka, it makes this charming destination an ideal place to properly combine a city break and coastal escape.
