The island of Mallorca is a perfect sun holiday destination in Spain that attracts travellers from all over the world almost year round due to its incredible weather and wide selection of truly dazzling beaches that boast soft sandy shores, blindingly blue waters, and scenic settings. From idyllic long golden strands to atmospheric craggy little bays that frame jewel-toned seas, there are all sorts of different beaches to choose from right across the island if you have found a villa in Mallorca. Among all of these, one of the most beautiful and most beloved is the infinitely charming Caló des Moro.
Caló des Moro always tops lists of the best beaches in Mallorca and for good reason: it looks like something from a postcard! The impossibly blue waters, against the lush greenery and impressive pale cliffs all around this picturesque cove are truly idyllic. And those waters! They are so clear that you can perfectly see the seabed from the cliffs overlooking the beach. For swimming and snorkelling, it is a dreamy location. It is, however, also bit of a victim of its own success and has been attracting massive crowds throughout the summer months since images of it went viral online. From June to September, you can expect large numbers of visitors and some people even lined up for three hours at a time to access the beach during Covid restrictions. While normally not quite as intense as that, it is definitely now in high demand among tourists on holiday in Mallorca.

Despite this, it is still worth seeing with your own eyes and to go for a quick dip. There isn’t much of a strand to speak of so it isn’t a great place to lay out or spend a whole day at the beach. Diving into those magical azure waters to cool off and taking in the image of this striking beach from above is immensely rewarding, however, so we do recommend either coming out of season (particularly if you are thinking about a spring break in Mallorca) or just swinging by for a quick swim. It is especially idyllic to enjoy these gorgeous waters as the sun sets in the background.
The nearby beaches of Cala Llombards and Cala Santanyi are both much more spacious white sandy beaches and have various facilities, making them better for lounging about for longer period of time. Dropping by the photogenic Caló des Moro during a trip to one of these beaches or as part of a tour of the coastline of this part of Mallorca, therefore, is an ideal way to see this iconic gem for yourself while still enjoying the comfort and amenities offered by these neighbours. From Cala Santanyi, you can also walk to the natural stone arch of Es Pontas, which is another of Mallorca’s most remarkable natural tourist attractions and landmarks.

Located on the eastern coast of Mallorca, these stunning beaches are a distance away from most of the big towns and tourist areas so they are really only easily accessible if you rent a car. If you have rented a car and are looking to visit this stretch of the coastline of Mallorca and Caló des Moro, in particular, then you can head to the parking facilities near Cala Llombards or Cala Almunia and get the rest of the way on foot.
Next to the fire hydrant by Cala Llombards, there is a sign that reads, “platja,” and points to a route following a coastal path for about ten minutes to Caló des Moro. This pretty walk is a delight in its own right and ends at a wonderful viewing point over the magic beach below before a series of steep stone steps bring you down to the small strand. As it is a somewhat rocky trail, closed shoes rather than sandals are recommended and the steepness of the steps do make it hard for smaller kids and some elderly people to navigate so keep this in mind if you are planning a visit. The path from Cala Almunia, meanwhile, is a little more comfortable and easy to traverse. Again, look for the, “platja,” sign and then follow the trail that is indicated.
So, book your villa in Mallorca today and come discover the magical beaches of this incredible island in Spain!
