In a report that was released by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency, it was shown that the bathing water in Croatia ranks among the highest in Europe and number one when it comes to coastal bathing areas, in particular. Among the 22,081 bathing sites that were monitored and assessed using microbiological data across the 27 member states of the EU and Albania and Switzerland, the bathing water quality of Croatia managed to come out on top. In fact, after testing almost 1000 bathing sites in Croatia in 2023, it was found that 96.7% were of excellent quality. Of coastal bathing sites, this rises to a whopping 99.1%! The few coastal bathing sites – only 27 in total – that did not meet the qualifications for excellent quality water were labelled good or sufficient. None of the bathing sites monitored in Croatia were labelled poor quality – quite the claim for a whole country.
