The town of Morlaix is a picture-perfect market town in Brittany that looks like something from a storybook. With cobbled streets, pretty timber-framed buildings, some of which have religious or secular sculptures on them, sweet churches, plenty of architectural wonders, lots of little surprises, and more, it provides a dreamy day-trip destination for anyone who books a villa in Brittany. Here's our guide to what to see and do in Morlaix when you visit...

Look Around For Street Art
Between the sixteenth-century half-timbered houses built by linen merchants, the winding little alleys, the surprise steeples or towers, the pretty houses with mansard roofs, and the finely hewn stone and distinctive brick, those exploring this patchwork of historical eras and styles will stumble across remarkable street art murals. Located on walls overlooking both historic squares and in tucked-away parking lots alike, they are particularly striking within this timeless setting. Those who wander the town should definitely keep their eyes peeled for examples as you never know when they might turn up!

Wander The Alleys
In fact, wandering the network of little alleys around Morlaix is both so popular and encouraged that there is an official guide to different routes through them. Pop into the tourist office a copy up and choose among the five different routes that vary between 1.3km to 3.7km. Take your time, pop into boutiques, stop to take photos, sit down outside a café for a coffee or a glass of wine, and really give in to the meditative wonder of strolling around this impossibly picturesque place...

Take It All In From Above
When you find yourself on the alleyways of venelle de la roche or venelle aux prêtres, use the foot access to climb up to the town's iconic 19th century viaduct. Towering over Morlaix and measuring a whopping 62 metres high, it was originally opened in 1863 as a key connection point along the Paris-Brest line before a pedestrian walkway was opened on its lower floor in 2012. While an engineering wonder worth taking in in its own right, it also boasts excellent views over town!

Grab A Craft Beer
People tend to associate wine with France but beer-lovers should note that booking a vacation rental in Brittany means you will be able to dive into the renowned scene of Breton beers. Morlaix gave the region Coreff, a pioneer of Breton beers that is served in almost every bistro in the region. Established in the 80s, it is now based in Carhaix but is just one example of the kind of delicious local beer that you'll find being served up in the wonderful bars of Morlaix. So, after you have explored and have worked up a thirst, stop and treat yourself to a cool glass of beer or two.

Head To The Marina
Another of the key areas of the town, the elegant marina of Morlaix is where money and goods flowed into the area. As a result, it is lined with handsome and imposing buildings, many of which have been repurposed in recent years into cultural spaces like art-house cinemas, concert halls, museums, and more. Discover what's on and get your cultural fix or simply wander about and enjoy the bobbing boats and charming scenery.

A dreamy place to spend a day getting a little lost, taking it all in, treating yourself, and relaxing in picturesque surroundings, Morlaix is an ideal place to explore during a stay in one of our remarkable holiday rentals in Brittany!
