Istria is famously one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Croatia and, as a result, there are plenty of resort towns, many of which have been built up as large developments. However, for those who are not as big a fan of package deals and sun holidays but, rather, seek out the more authentic, traditional, cultural, and historic aspects of a vacation destination, then there is still plenty to discover in the region. Traditionally the area inland, known as Green Istria, is where you’ll find peace and quiet and areas untouched by mass tourism while Blue Istria, the coastline, is the area that attracts great crowds of tourists during the summer months. Poreč and Rovinj, for example, are located along the coast of Istria and are Croatia's two most popular seaside resorts. As a result, you’ll have to compete with large crowds during the hottest months of the year. But that doesn’t mean that these towns are completely without charm, local flavour, and authenticity. In fact, the Old Town of Rovinj is one of the most beautiful in the country and the town, as a whole, is incredibly picturesque and rich in culture and historical heritage. So, if you can put up with the crowds during the summer or you’re planning on travelling off-season, you’ll discover that there is much more to this popular holiday destination than one might expect. Worth the hype, with something for everyone, browse our vacation rentals in Rovinj today and come discover its unique charms for yourself!

Croatia is a famous holiday destination among sun-worshippers and sea-lovers as it boasts a long and scenic coastline, lots of little islands to be discovered, and wonderful Mediterranean weather, all at a pretty reasonable price-tag compared to many other locations in the area. The region of Istria, in particular, is well-known as an excellent coastal destination as is the area around the famous capital of Dubrovnik. However, there are plenty of other wonderful seaside destinations to be discovered. Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, for example, boasts a long coastline along the Northern Adriatic, some 55 islands, 86 harbours, lots of villages, towns, and cities by the sea, and endless beaches. If you love being by the sea then a vacation rental in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is just the thing! In fact, it is in this region that you will find the island of Rab with rare soft, sandy beaches for Croatia that rival the perfect strands of the Caribbean. Another of the most appealing examples among these various coastal gems is the town of Opatija, which is where Croatian tourism was born and where you'll find one of the most unique and striking beaches in the country.

Close to the Italian border, to the north of Croatia, you will find the lovely town of Pula, capital of Istria. An impossibly pretty place, you can expect cobbled streets, Roman ruins dotted throughout (including a rather impressive and picturesque amphitheatre that could give the colosseum a run for its money), wonderful beaches, excellent seafood, festivals, a vibrant nightlife, and lots to see and do in this seaside gem. It is a place with something to suit everyone from couples in search of romance, groups of friends in search of fun, families looking for lots of great activities, and solo travellers looking for a bit of adventure alike.

If you have found a vacation rental in Pula or a vacation rental in Istria and are looking at the top things to see and do while exploring this charming city, you will most likely see plenty of travellers and guides suggesting a visit to Pula's Aquarium. The most visited public aquarium in Croatia, this institution is particularly devoted to education on the sea and its inhabitants, the need for protection and conservation of our waters, and the rescuing and returning back to the sea of critters who have found themselves in a spot of danger or trouble. As such, it is a perfect place to see sea creatures if you also really care about their safety and well-being!

As winter looms, many are looking ahead to brighter days and thinking about their next sun holiday. If you have been considering a vacation in Croatia next spring or summer then why not browse our holiday rentals in Zagreb and come and see what this vibrant and beautiful city has to offer? As the capital and largest city in Croatia, Zagreb is a centre of culture and activity with lots to see and do, from wandering amongst the 18th- and 19th-century Austro-Hungarian architectural gems that make up the historic core of the city, to grabbing food in one of the endless outdoor cafes lining the streets, to exploring markets, to admiring the stunning Mirogoj Cemetery, to enjoying water sports on Jarun Lake, to visiting the wide range of unique and incredible museums in town. In fact, Zagreb boasts a rather remarkable museum circuit including: the Museum of Broken Relationships (dedicated to the stories of relationships and breakups as told by individuals involved in them themselves and the objects that symbolise these broken ties), the Archaeological Museum, the Croatian Association of Artists, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Croatian Museum of Naïve Art (dedicated to the work of some of the most famous artists in this genre of those who were not formally trained in fine art), the Museum Mimara (boasting a collection of works donated by a well-travelled local who brought back glassware from Alexandria, jade and ivory ornaments from China, paintings by Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Bosch, Velázquez, Goya, Renoir, and Degas, and more), the Museum of Illusion, the City Museum, and more. It would be fair to call it the museum capital of Croatia in addition to being the actual capital of the country.
