Lyon is a 2,000 year old city in the east of France that is the third-largest city and second-largest urban area in the country and is the capital of the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The Historic Site of Lyon was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 due to the "exceptional testimony to the continuity of urban settlement over more than two millennia on a site of great commercial and strategic significance."
