Oia, Santorini
In a move to maintain the good reputation of, and interest in, Greece as a desirable destination for tourists, the Greek National Tourism Organisation, in cooperation with Google, have started the “Greece from Home” initiative. Launched at the start of April by the GNTO and Marketing Greece, with the support of Google, it reinforces Greece's positive image during these difficult and trying times in which travel to the region has been made temporarily impossible and allows people all over the world to stay in touch with Greek culture and access Greek tourist attractions.

Through Youtube videos, virtual tours, pictures, and much more besides, this new website and service will allow those who can't wait for their next trip to Greece to help temporarily satisfying their cravings for all of the things that make us love this country and holiday destination.     Read More

Elafonisi Beach, grasses
Crete is always the destination to choose if you are interested in a seaside location that boasts beaches that seem too beautiful to be real. However, if you have found a vacation rental in Crete and are exploring her incredible beaches, pretty towns, and strikingly beautiful landscape, we might suggest setting aside some time to head to the beaches of Elafonisi, in particular.

Previously a hidden gem that was only popular among locals on Crete, Elafonisi was named one of the world's top 25 beaches on TripAdvisor in 2014 and has been all over Instagram and Pinterest in the years since. As such, it is absolutely crowded during the high season in the summer months (up to 2,500 people visit daily during July and August) but it is still worth visiting as there is a very good reason that it became so famous: it is utterly stunning, with saturated hues that seem photoshopped (and often are but are no less impressive in real life all the same), wildflowers, intriguing rock formations, pink sands, and waters so crystal clear that you can perfectly observe any wildlife that you come into contact with. Plus, if you visit outside of the busiest times of the year for tourists (when it is generally still warm and pleasant) then you will most likely have little to no crowds to contend with at all.     Read More

A baby loggerhead
Much as the manmade can astound and delight travellers, nothing can really compare to the majesty, diversity, mystery, and beauty of nature. When you are exploring the world, great views, impressive rock formations, stunning beaches, majestic mountain peaks, lush pastures, towering forests, and other natural phenomena are usually high on the list of your things to see and do. Greece, in particular, is a place that boasts a diverse and utterly stunning landscape, full of wonderful gifts from nature and, if you have found a vacation rental in Zakynthos, then there is likely a particular sight that will rank high on the list of things to see and do for any tourist visiting the area: to spot the famous turtles of Marathonisi.

The appeal is understandable; these are utterly beautiful and astounding creatures and the opportunity to, perhaps, see them up-close is thrilling. However, this article is not the regular kind that you will find on this website. It will not detail the excitement of a particular attraction or day out but, rather, inform and suggest caution instead.

Zakynthos still has many charms but, after the last recession, it has struggled and mass development of tourist resorts is something that was turned to in desperation to help the flailing economy. The wondrous natural bounty of the island has, undeniably, suffered, as a result. Not least of all the community of loggerhead turtles that shelter on the eastern side of Zakynthos to mate and lay eggs. They are the only species of turtles that come to Greek waters and of the entire Mediterranean loggerhead population (which is estimated to only be in the low thousands), around 50-70% come to Zakynthos.     Read More
