Continuing from our last post and in this, the last post in this week's Barcelona special, we are counting down just ten great reasons to immediately find a vacation rental in Barcelona and get planning a trip to this beautiful city.

6. The Unique Culture: Spain has a rich and diverse culture and, as Catalan habits are very rooted, and locals feel very proud about them, Barcelona is particularly fascinating with all sorts of performances, foods and experiences that are unique to the city.

Lanzarote is an extraordinary destination that is often underestimated. It is not just a destination for resort holidays during which one never strays far from the villa, for lazing endlessly on the beach or hanging out in touristy bars and restaurants. Of course, you can do all of those things, if you want to, but there is more to this island. Its landscape, in particular, is extraordinary. Volcanic and alien-like plains and mountains meet scrubby coasts with perfect beaches, to present starkly beautiful and fascinating vistas. The Modernista Sant Pau Complex is a hospital building in Barcelona that was built between 1905 and 1930 and designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner as a garden city for nursing the sick.

It was used as a public hospital for a century and has been recently refurbished and repurposed as a knowledge campus and the headquarters of international organisations including the European Forest Institute, the Casa Àsia, the Global University Network for Innovation, and the United Nations University Institute on Globalization, Culture and Mobility.

A stunning art-nouveau architectural complex that was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1997, it is a beautiful place to visit, wander and in which to take pictures. If you have found a vacation rental in Barcelona and are looking to visit an attraction that is a little off the beaten tourist track, or you are an architecture aficionado, it is a must-see.

The beautiful city of Madrid is full of things to see and do from incredible museums and galleries to great places to eat and from wonderful views to architectural gems. Like all places, in addition to the traditional tourist attractions and things to do, there are little curiosities and oddities to be discovered all over the city. One of these is the “la abuela rockera”, a very special statue in the neighbourhood of Vallecas. Just find a vacation rental in Madrid and come discover this unique memorial for yourself.

The Els Enfarinats Festival is another of Spain's wonderful traditions and another example of an annual large-scale European food fight, just like the Spanish La Tomatina fight with tomatoes and the Italian Battle of the Oranges. This festival, however, takes place in the Spanish town of Ibi and employs flour bombs and eggs, instead of oranges.

Taking place on the 28th of December each year, it sees residents of the town dress in military garb, separate into two teams, and throw flour, eggs, and fire extinguisher dust at each other. It also escalates an hour later and firecrackers are involved in the fight, as well. If you're looking for an exciting post-festive season getaway, this is just the thing! Just find a vacation rental in Valencia and head to the town of Ibi, but make sure to bring a spare set of clothes.
