The administrative capital and known as the, “heart of Istria,” Pazin is visually captivating and has been capturing the hearts and imaginations of those who visit or hear of the place for some time. In fact, Pazin is a great example of the so-called, "Green Istria", the area inland, away from the famous coast, where the region is lush and dramatic and ripe for exploration and adventure. This part of Istria is known for craggy mountains, forests, valleys, rivers, and caves. It is a place to enjoy all sorts of outdoor pursuits from zip-lining to hiking, mountain-biking to exploring caves.

During your time in Opatija, between swimming in little bays (as there aren’t real beaches to speak of), wandering the promenade, dining in the city’s brilliant restaurants, watching the sun set over the coast, and generally just kicking back and relaxing, you should probably head to the Villa Angiolina at some stage, which is the Croatian Museum of Tourism and the only traditional tourist attraction to speak of in the town.

Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, for example, boasts a long coastline along the Northern Adriatic, some 55 islands, 86 harbours, lots of villages, towns, and cities by the sea, and endless beaches. In fact, it is in this region that you will find the island of Rab with rare soft, sandy beaches for Croatia that rival the perfect strands of the Caribbean.
