Long before there were floods of tourists drawn in by dragons and grand plots of political intrigue and upheaval, Croatia was a famous holiday destination, in large part, for her beaches. The whole country is quite the natural beauty but the coasts, in particular, are especially stunning and there is no shortage of beautiful beaches. However, there are some particularly outstanding examples so here are more of our picks of Croatia's best beaches…
3. Proizd
If you are coming and looking for the beauty of Croatia's beaches but don't want to face the slews of tourists that can plague them, then you might consider Proizd.

A virtually undiscovered island, it is a secret local hideaway far from the usual crowds. Voted Croatia’s most beautiful beach in 2007 by the Croatian Tourist Board, it is a stunning quartet of bathing areas, each a five minute walk from the next and is made up of stark white rocks lapped by the most perfectly crystal-clear turquoise waters that you have ever seen. Just find a vacation rental in Split and then take the ferry to the island of Vela Luka and then a taxi boat to islet of Proizd. Then, you can spend a day basking in the sun and playing in that incredible water!
4. Brela Beach
Brela Beach is world-class and, certainly, one of Croatia's best beaches. Actually a string of linked beaches that goes on for 6km, it was rated by Forbes as one of the top ten beaches in the world. Stretching out from either side of Brela town, a charming mixture of new and old with a relaxed seaside vibe, the beaches are well equipped with showers, lounger and parasol rentals, peddleboat and boat rentals and nearby restaurants. The further you venture away from the town, the quieter it gets, making it the perfect place to go for both top-notch facilities and a quieter beach experience. Just find a vacation rental in Split-Dalmatia County and stop by.
Of course, there are many more excellent beaches so be sure to read on to the next posts in this series.
