It is no secret that you are spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches in France. As there is such a large coastal area in the country, there are numerous options and there is also a lot of variety from windswept and romantic beauties to sights of historic events, surfing heavens to luxurious resorts, family-friendly dreams to party hubs: whatever kind of beach you're looking for, you're sure to find it in France. However, in order to help you to narrow it down, we have chosen some of our favourite among them all. Here are more of our picks of the best beaches in France.
5. Utah Beach, Normandy
It would, of course, be remiss of us not to mention any of the beaches in Normandy that were part of the events of D-Day. This beach is the westernmost of the Invasion Beaches. Steeped in history, it is one of the locations where, on D-Day, 23,000 men and 1700 vehicles landed.

An itinerary and walking route traces the edge of the dunes and allows visitors to follow the course of the fighting and the events of that day, while ships deliberately sunk to create artificial breakwaters are visible at low tide, and markers are located along the seafront to commemorate individual fallen heroes.
If you are interested in history, love beaches and have found a vacation rental in Normandy...well, what are you waiting for?!
6. Plage d’Hendaye, Nouvelle-Aquitaine
A popular beach among surfers and bathers alike, it boasts wonderful views down to the Spanish coast and across the Pyrenees. Clean and, generally, not too crowded (unless it is high season or there are some especially great waves!), this little gem is a great place to head for a peaceful atmosphere, pretty surrounds and great waves. Just find a vacation rental in Aquitaine and drop by!
