Preveli is one of the most famous beaches in Crete; which is saying something in a place so renowned for its many lovely beaches! If you find a vacation rental in Crete, it is one of the best places to spend a perfect day out.

In the hotter months, walking might not be the best of ideas but buses run daily from Rethymnon town and one can get relatively close by car.

Positioned at the mouth of the Kourtaliótiko gorge, where it meets with the Libyan Sea and forms a cool lagoon, this sandy beach is incredibly picturesque. Framing Preveli Beach, there is an extensive glade of palm trees and oleanders that create some glorious shade. The river that flows down to the beach forms a large lake that then merges into the sea.
Restaurants and snack bars nearby but there are no umbrella and sunbed rentals as they ruined the exotic appearance of the beach.
Pedal boats, however, can be rented and are great for playing on the river. A visit to the Preveli Monastery and to take in the views from the high cliffs on the west side are also a must.
