Should You Go Skiing In Sierra Nevada In Spain?

Sierra Nevada
The famous Sierra Nevada mountain range is located in the region of Andalusia in Spain, is Europe’s most southerly ski resort, and boasts one of Europe’s longest ski seasons. For those looking to plan a European ski break over the Christmas holidays or over half term or spring break next year, it is a perfect destination. But don’t just take our word for it, here are five reasons to find a vacation rental in Andalusia and head to the Sierra Nevada ski resort for a ski holiday this winter season.

1. How long is the ski season in the Sierra Nevada?

As noted, the Sierra Nevada ski resort boasts one of the longest ski seasons in Europe, usually starting in late November and running all the way until early May, with the Alpine meadows of the mountain resort transformed by a blanket of snow for almost half of the year. It also offers almost guaranteed sunshine and night skiing on Saturday nights, weather permitting. All of this means that you can easily plan a trip to the area and that you have lots of options and wiggle room for when you can go on your ski holiday in the Sierra Nevada. This is a great reason to choose it as your next ski trip destination!
2. How do you get to the Sierra Nevada?

Another great reason to choose the Sierra Nevada for your ski trip in Spain is that it is located just 27km from the centre of the city of Granada. You can readily drive that for day trips and choose to stay in the beautiful city of Granada to get the best of both worlds on your holiday in Spain. If you’re not driving, there are buses from the bus station in Granada departing at 8am, 10am, and 5pm on Monday to Friday, with an additional bus at 3pm on public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Return buses come back to Granada at 9am, 4pm, and 6.30pm on weekdays with an additional bus at 4pm on holidays and the weekend. All of this gives you plenty of time out on the slopes before returning back to Granada to rest in one of our beautiful vacation rentals in Granada. Bus tickets cost just 5 euros and can be bought at the bus station or online.

3. Is the Sierra Nevada an expensive place to ski?

While the Sierra Nevada is not cheap by any means, if done correctly, it is not the most expensive skiing destination either and has lots of amenities and perks that make it worth paying a little more. Staying a distance away in one of our vacation rentals in Andalusia and travelling to the ski resort on days that you want to ski will do much towards reducing your costs overall for the trip. Where things can get pricey is with the ski lifts. The ski area of the Sierra Nevada, located right in the heart of the Sierra Nevada National Park, is split into two main areas: Pradollano and Borreguiles. To get to the slopes, you will need to take the cable car and ski lifts and get the lift tickets, with daily passes costing around €45 for an adult, depending on the time of year, and around €30 for kids under 16. Children under 6 go free bar a €3 refundable deposit to be put on your own card. So, if you’re looking for a great place to ski but are worried about the cost of a trip, know that you can do the Sierra Nevada on a budget!
