Villa Hersonissos

Crete is one of our favourite holiday destinations. It is an island paradise in Greece with truly exceptional scenery, picture-perfect little villages, truly exceptional beaches, a delicious local cuisine, and archaeological and historical gems dotted all throughout the place. No matter what kind of holiday you’re after, you’re likely to find everything you need in Crete. Those interested in staying active will have endless options: from hiking canyons, to climbing cliffs, to racing cars, to kayaking impossibly blue waters, to snorkelling or diving into their crystal-clear depths. Those interested in doing little at all will find that the very same bountiful landscape for activity is also ideal for relaxing and that there are lots of quiet seaside resorts and villages not yet completely commercialised or overrun by tourists. Long days laying out on the beach, or wandering pretty old towns and exploring boutiques, or enjoying meals or a glass of wine while the sun sets over the water go perfectly with our wonderful villas in Crete. In these amazing properties you can have space, peace, quiet, and maybe even a pool that will mean you barely have to go anywhere at all to have a perfectly relaxing getaway in Greece. Then there are the food-lovers who should, in particular, make a point to head to Chania, which is a true foodie paradise. Or the history buffs who are interested in hitting up plenty of museums and interesting attractions, who should definitely head to Heraklion and the nearby Minoan sites of Knossos and Phaestos. So really, Crete does have everything you could possibly ask for in a holiday destination.

It also has some of our best villas in Greece and, among them, we thought we’d highlight the exceptional Villa Hersonissos today.

Villa Hersonissos, living room

Villa Hersonissos is a very pretty vacation rental located 6km from the charming and historic resort town of Hersonissos, which is located 25km from Heraklion. Hersonissos is not only an incredibly picturesque area of lush greenery, pretty traditional buildings, top-notch beaches and beach facilities, and endless character, it also boasts lots of different attractions in the area including the only golf club on the island, the Hersonissos Aquarium, the Labyrinth Theme Park, and the Dinosauria Park in Gournes. Plus, several of the aforementioned beaches of Hersonissos are blue flag beaches including Potamos, Anissara, and Potamos. Villa Hersonissos, therefore, is a wonderful place for families or groups looking for plenty of options of things to see and do and sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

In addition to the nearby attractions, the villa itself has more than enough to offer a tourist on holiday in Greece. The nearest beach is just 200m away but the villa also boasts a private pool with incredible sea views, gentle steps down into the water for easy access, and paved surroundings with sun loungers, a table and chairs to sit out and watch the kids or chat with people in the water, and lanterns to keep the area lit up as the sun sets beautifully over the sea.

Villa Hersonissos, dining area

Set in a charming manicured private garden, you will find several areas to dine al fresco on the terraces and grounds of the property (one covered and the others uncovered), a well set-up barbecue area, little seating areas to read and relax, a table tennis table, a trampoline (with safety barrier around it), and more all around the villa. Most of this idyllic garden is made even more pleasant and charming by the lush planting and those remarkable sea views – you’ll barely want to leave the place!

Villa Hersonissos, at night

Of course, the interior of the villa is important too and it does not disappoint! Inside Villa Hersonissos you will find bright and spacious rooms with elegant furnishings and touches such as beautiful furniture and crystal chandeliers playing against the rather more rustic details of the villa like  its charming exposed brick walls that can be found all throughout. Executed largely in a pleasant palette of warm tones of brown and cream, the house features lots of rich wood pieces of furniture, welcoming fireplaces, and large and comfortable plush armchairs and leather sofas. Each of the three bedrooms is decorated with care and style and each has its own unique character and identity: a little pastel blue room that is perfect for children with a double bed and a funky little red desk in the corner (and a crib on request); a delicate pink and cream room with lots of light and a giant bed; and a peaceful bedroom in green, cream and brown tones with two single beds. The bathrooms, meanwhile, are all spacious and luxurious. All in all, Villa Hersonissos really makes for both the ideal place to come home and unwind after long and fun-filled days of exploring the island and all that there is to see and do or for simply just hanging out on the grounds and enjoying all that this truly remarkable property has to offer!
