For some, it might be early to start thinking about the Holidays but some eagerly await autumnal weather, then Hallowe’en spookiness, and then the festive cheer and run up to the holiday season. In fact, many get a longer holiday at this time of the year or get to see loved ones that are otherwise busy and occupied throughout the year. So, planning a really special getaway as a group or on your own or with a loved one or two can be a great way to make the most of it and booking now means you’ll have the most choice as availability remains excellent. And, if you are looking to vacation in Spain and make really unique memories and engage in local tradition, then why not find a villa in Alicante and join in on Spain’s biggest and oldest food fight?
Engage your inner child on the 28th of December this year by heading to the town of Ibi for the day. Located about 37km from the city of Alicante in the province of the same name, this 200-year-old tradition once died out but was re-established in 1981 and sees locals dress in military garb, split into two teams, and engage in a massive food fight throughout the charming historic core of the town with flour, eggs, and fire extinguisher dust. After an hour firecrackers are involved in the fight, as well, adding even more excitement and colour to the event, as they battle to, “take over,” the town.
Called, “Els Enfarinats,” (roughly translating to, “the floured ones,”) and part of Day of the Innocents celebrations, the event culminates in the winners creating new and silly laws and gathering fines for those who break them to donate to charity after the event.
A truly unique way to have fun during the holiday season, this spectacle will make a holiday in Alicante utterly unforgettable!
