If you are planning on booking one of our holiday rentals in Dubrovnik and you are coming to explore this fantastical and picturesque ancient town that acted as a stunning setting for the fictional town of King’s Landing in the beloved show Game of Thrones, then you are likely planning on going for a proper wander around her Old Town. For most, this will inevitably include climbing up onto the town’s impressive ancient walls and walking along them.
As simply paying to access the Old Walls themselves costs visitors €40, however, we think it might be worth considering buying a Dubrovnik Pass instead (€40 for a one-day pass, €50 for three days, and €60 for a seven-day pass) This not only grants pass-holders access to the Old Walls but it also offers free entry into the town’s museums and galleries and free use of public transport. So, if you are really looking to make the most of your time on vacation in Dubrovnik, this is the only way to go!
While you are walking the Old Walls, gazing over the ramparts, taking in views over the bay and the sea, wandering walkways that have existed for centuries, and spying all sorts of wonderful medieval curiosities, you might be surprised to stumble upon people playing a little ball on the two tiny 3x3 basketball courts tucked into these ancient structures!
Croatia, as a country, is quite sports mad and has a long history of Olympic enthusiasm and these 3x3 courts tucked ingeniously into the limited space afforded by the ancient walls of the city allows locals to participate in the 3x3 format of basketball, which has been an official Olympic sport since 2020. There are, of course, full-size courts elsewhere in the city that can be used and enjoyed but few other courts in Dubrovnik, or anywhere else in the world for that matter, are quite so picturesque! There is also a blue, full-size court that you might spot tucked between some buildings as you explore the walls but this does not have the same kind of views as the 3x3 courts and is also not opened to the public as it is part of a school.
If you are a sports fan and a basketball-lover, in particular, and you have found a vacation rental in Dubrovnik, we do think it is well-worth watching some locals play (or maybe getting to score a few hoops yourself, if you are lucky enough) on the 3x3 court, meanwhile, as it is one of the most-photographed basketball courts in the world. It was also named as among the best-designed courts of its kind in the world by Architectural Digest in 2022. Certainly incredibly unique and picturesque, it is a charming little surprise for those who are exploring the ancient core of the city.
Just one of the endless little delights on offer in this cinematically good-looking city on the coast of Croatia, it is one more reason among many to book a villa in Dubrovnik today. Come and explore it all – both old and new alike – on an unforgettable vacation in Croatia with Easy Reserve.
