Folegandros is one of the more beautiful and lesser-known of the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. Located between the similarly unspoiled and ungentrified islands of Sikinos and Milos, it forms the southern part of the Cyclades along with Sikinos, Ios, Anafi and Santorini. It is an exceptionally lovely place with a wonderfully rugged landscape, incredible views from its remote position between the southern edge of the Cyclades and the Sea of Crete to the south, and three main and very pretty little villages. It is not a major tourist destination but, in 2005, was named as an extra special gem by Conde Nast Traveler, causing a stampede of travellers to somehow make their way there, which is saying something as it is a particularly difficult place to reach.     Read More

When one imagines a vacation rental in Crete or a holiday in Greece, they might picture themselves sipping chilled drinks on the beach but, if you find yourself there in the colder months, then we have a seasonal beverage in mind that might be a little more suitable. Rakomelo is the Greek alternative to mulled wine and is a hot, spiced beverage originally from Crete that is served at the ski resorts dotted throughout the country and in lots of towns all over Greece, with regional variations. If you're in Greece over the winter and making the most of the fact that 80% of the country is covered in mountains and it is, surprisingly, quite a good place to go skiing, then you should make sure to grab a glass of this magical stuff and curl up by the fire after long days on the slopes.     Read More

Silk looms
If you have found a vacation rental in Kalamata and are looking for a truly unique souvenir, then you should head to the Kalograion Monastery. Founded in 1796, this female-only Greek Orthodox monastery is dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen and is a fascinating institution. Located in the centre of Kalamata, close to the metropolitan church of Ypapanti and under the castle, it has been a local space for charity, a place of refuge during Ottoman occupation, a safe space during German and Italian occupation, and a shelter to those displaced during the Greek Civil War and after the devastating earthquake that took place in the area in 1986.     Read More

Patras Roman Odeon
If you have found a vacation rental in the city of Patrass, Greece, you may be wondering where you should go to take in the ancient history of the area...for what is a trip to Greece without some iconic ruins?
