The name of Imerovigli comes from the word “vigla” which comes from the Latin verb “vigliare”, meaning “to guard” or “to act as a look-out”, and the Greek “imera”, meaning “day”. This name makes a lot of sense, considering the position of the village, which provides a clear view of the Santorini caldera.
