Crete, in its own right, is a famously beautiful Greek island, populated by pretty villages, excellent beaches and stunning views. However, off this Greek island are even more little islands and each of these has its own charms and yet more pretty beaches. If you have found a vacation rental in Crete and well and truly want to get away from it all, just pack up for the day and come explore one of these islets for yourself.

Chrissi, or Chrysi (Χρυσή in Greek), meaning "golden" and also known as Gaidouronisi (Γαϊδουρονήσι), meaning "donkey island", is an uninhabited island located 15km south of Crete, close to Ierapetra. While the island is uninhabited, it can be visited by taking the ferries that leave from Ierapetra in the mornings and return in the afternoons, between the middle of May to late October.     Read More

If you found a holiday rental in Patras and followed the advice of our previous article to hike the nearby mountain range of Panachaiko, you might have spotted a beautiful dome towering over the rest of the city's skyline. This charming building is the Cathedral of St Andrew in Patras and is a 19th century beauty that is well worth a visit, should you find yourself exploring this incredible city.

A small church was originally erected on site between 1836 and 1843 on the spot where Apostle Andrew died a martyr under architect Lyssandros Kaftantzoglou. Inside the building is Andrew's tomb and his relics were initially housed there too until they were transferred, first to Constantinople and then Rome. However, in the 60s, as a gesture of good will to the people of the city, the saint's skull and finger were returned to his resting place.     Read More

River
Preveli is one of the most famous beaches in Crete; which is saying something in a place so renowned for its many lovely beaches! If you find a vacation rental in Crete, it is one of the best places to spend a perfect day out.

Located on the central south coast of the island, just a few kilometres from the monastery of the same name, it is an isolated, beautiful and romantic gem that can be reached by car, on foot, or by taking a boat from Plakias or Agia Galini. In the hotter months, walking might not be the best of ideas but buses run daily from Rethymnon town and one can get relatively close by car.

It is worth planning your trip carefully as, due to the fame and acclaim given to the beach, it can get very full of people in the summer months and receives thousands of visitors each year. However, if that doesn't bother you then, by all means, visit whenever you please!     Read More

Balos Beach
The Gramvousa Peninsula is a peninsula that features two small uninhabited islands off the coast of an area in north-western Crete. If you have found a vacation rental in Crete, it is an impossibly beautiful stretch of coast and just begging to be explored!

As a whole, the area is full of things to see and do and all of it utterly picturesque and idyllic; make sure to bring your camera because you'll want to capture and remember it all! Between the coast and the islands, a lagoon named Balos Lagoon stretches out and it is an iconic beauty.

The perfect sandy beach, the clear warm turquoise water and the stunning surroundings all make for a charming sight to behold. Too many visitors can ruin it as the beach itself isn't actually that big but if you plan your visit early or late in the day or outside the high season for tourists (June to August), you'll find smaller crowds.     Read More
